Matthew 11:28-30, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
The first three words of Matthew 11:28, “Come unto me…” set the foundation of our rest, showing that it is in a Person and not a “thing.” It is Someone, not something, that restores our soul and leads our paths to righteousness.
I especially love that little word, all. I was meditating on this passage one morning, and that little word seemed to jump off the page and slap me in the face! I got so overwhelmed at the fact that Christ is not only able to handle my burdens, but the burdens of all His children! It may seem childish to you, but I used to imagine that I would have to take my burdens to Christ as quickly as possible because “He has better things to do than to worry about me.” But God seemed to utterly convict this heart of mine that this invitation is for me personally, and I was free to roll my burdens over on Him anytime!
Do you really believe God can handle ALL of our burdens at once?

- Responsibilities at home
- Ministries and church activities
What about more serious loads of life that come at unexpected times?
- The death of a child
- The conclusion of a marriage
- The news of cancer in your body
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel like the psalmist when I think of all of life’s trials; “… Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest” (Psalm 55:6). But then so softly and tenderly God seems to always bring me back to Calvary’s cross. It is amazing how a fresh perspective of His suffering, brings a man to his knees in humble adoration. All trivialities of life are hidden in the shadow of Jesus of Nazareth. Our light affliction can never be compared to the agony of His bruising! A renewed view of Calvary is such a cure to a restless soul! For what greater lesson of meekness and lowliness is there then the Christ laying down His life for all men!
Aren’t you glad He took the burden of our sin on Himself? “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:6-8).
If Christ could finish His redemptive work on Calvary’s cross, don’t you think He can handle our burdens? There was no greater burden that man has ever carried than becoming sin for the sake of the world! If we can trust Christ for Calvary, we can with unwavering faith trust Him to carry ALL of our burdens.
