Man prides himself in what he builds. It is his trophy on the shelf, a staple of hard work and dedication. Soft hands and fishy handshakes are not welcomed to the builder of great things. His tools are his closest friends and his materials are common companions, but at the end of the day his greatest joy is found in his product. He is proud of his work, and his labor merits a good night’s rest.
Enoch: Can You Tie Your Shoes?
Tying shoe laces is a daunting task for a child. While making up tunes about bunny ears and walking around trees, parents do all they can to expedite the learning curve, but their patience is tried nonetheless. So why do you tie your shoes?
The Danger of Being around Good People
I often hear it said, “They are good people.” This is a subjective statement, of course, because it is filtered by the person’s standard of goodness. We know from Scripture that “there is none that doeth good” (Romans 3:12). The Apostle Paul, by any measurement, a good man, testified, “In me (that is, in my flesh) dwelleth no good thing” (Romans 7:18).
What We Miss While We Are Looking at Our Phones
Have you noticed? Everyone is looking at their mobile device…constantly! In the grocery store. Around the dinner table. Driving down the road. Walking through town. Consumed with a digital world, we are no longer conscious of the world God placed us in. Concerned about connections and messages we are losing real relationships with those who are closest to us on earth. We have added so much information and interaction to life – have we stopped to consider what we may be losing? While we are looking at our phones…
Abel: Can God Testify For You?
In the last article, we discovered how Abel began his legacy of obedience by giving God his very best. Leftovers and invaluables would not do, for Abel wished to worship God in spirit and truth and was willing to sacrifice his greatest gifts. Such obedience would be marked on the pages of Holy Scripture, and … Continue reading Abel: Can God Testify For You?
The Upside of Downtime
Who likes staying at home? With the pandemic of the Coronavirus putting restrictions on travel, churches, business meetings etc, it has definitely prohibited us from our fast-paced American schedule. Many of us have been forced to spend some extra time at home. While that may be frustrating to many, I for one am grateful. I … Continue reading The Upside of Downtime
Abel: The Legacy of Obedience
There is no doubt that siblings can be extremely different from one another, and no two brothers fit that description better than Cain and Abel. Cain, a tiller of the ground. Abel, a keeper of the sheep. Cain, the firstborn son. Abel, the baby of the family. Although very different, there is one common denominator … Continue reading Abel: The Legacy of Obedience
The Way of Cain
“There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Proverbs 16:25 Like father like son, Cain also disobeyed what God had required of him. Abel’s sacrifice of the firstlings of his sheep was accepted at the altar, but Cain’s sacrifice was a different story. It is important to note that God did not just reject Cain’s sacrifice, He rejected Cain. As it’s been said, “In God’s presence, you cannot be who others think you are, but you must be who God knows you to be.” God looked beyond the substance of the sacrifice and saw that it was Cain’s heart that was not right for “his works were wicked” I John 3:12. God will only accept worship that is pure and holy: “for no flesh will glory in His presence.”
The Danger of Shipwreck
As I ran along the coast in a Florida community some time ago I saw one of the most vivid reminders of the dangers of life. The sun was shining bright and the skies were clear. People around me mingled in the park, walking their dogs and talking to one another. Expensive private boats floated along the pier. And there in the middle of all that beauty was the wreckage…
Adam: the Power of One Decision
Can you imagine being dropped in the middle of a place you’ve never been, with things surrounding you that you’ve never seen before? You question the reality of just how beautiful this place is. Everything seems so vibrant and lovely. It is strange to you, yet you feel at home. That is a small glimpse … Continue reading Adam: the Power of One Decision
